David received his Bachelor’s from UCLA in Musical Composition and Voice in ’92. Before moving
to the Bay Area, he produced two original solo albums in the folk/rock genre. After moving to the
Bay Area in ’94 he started musical directing plays and musicals. Musical Direction credits include
Art Street Theatre’s Musical “IO the Princess of Argos”, which was nominated for 4 Critic’s Circle
Awards, San Francisco Shakepeare’s The Winter’s Tale and TheatreWorks’ production of the Grapes of
Wrath. Also at Theatre Works, he was the assistant conductor for the musical Floyd Collins. In
1996-97 was a member of Mirabai Experimental Jazz Vocal Ensemble, under the direction of Michael
Smolens.
His compositions and arrangements vary from songs solo voice and guitar, jazz clarinet ballads,
to music for full orchestra and wind ensemble. Compositions include music for “Norah’s Dance”, a
Modern Dance Quartet which was workshopped at ODC in San Francisco, and at UCLA. He was the composer
for San Francisco Shakespeare Festival’s Romeo and Juliet. He has also composed music for the independent
films “The H-Tour” and “IPO”. In 2004 he developed a musical score for The Forest Wars, a work in
development by Mark Jackson and American Conservatory Theatre. This summer, he will be recording the
first album of his long-distance rock band, Sordid Boon.
